HandiMove Pool Lift Hoist Brings Accessible Boating to Lake Dunstan

Central Otago is one of New Zealand’s most scenic regions, with Cromwell at its heart. Lake Dunstan offers breathtaking views and numerous outdoor activities — from walking and biking to skiing. The area is also situated close to the airport in Queenstown and Wanaka.

Lake Dunstan, created by the Clyde Dam project in the 1990s, has become a thriving destination for boating and fishing where many homes own private jetties. However, for one local resident, getting aboard their boat presented some challenges — it required several people to lift them manually.

Active Healthcare was asked to find a solution for this Pisa Moorings resident and that’s where we stepped in with a practical and empowering solution: the HandiMove Pool Lift Hoist. – originally designed to assist individuals into pools, has proved to be the perfect fit for this lakeside setup.

Our team installed a socket in the jetty’s concrete and the hoist is stored and charged at the client’s house when not in use. The result is a smooth, safe transfer from land to boat without manual lifting and stress. Using a sling, the hoist can position the person into any seat on board, even take the captain’s seat!

It’s a game-changer for accessibility and independence with no compromise on lifestyle.

Now, lake days can be just as they should be: easy, relaxing, and full of freedom. Maybe even with a bit of wine and cheese on the water!
