At Napier’s popular BaySkate park you might see something a bit different, but very cool! Paediatric Physiotherapist Ginny Couch has developed a skateboard rig, on wheels, that allows access to skateboarding to children who would otherwise be left on the sidelines.
The skateboard rig came about as a collaboration with local office furniture manufacturer Furnware alongside Ginny, who worked to build the skateboard rig on wheels to allow for adaptive scootering, and skateboarding to help children with physical disabilities. One of Ginny’s 5 year old clients received a skateboard for Christmas, but he has cerebral palsy, so along came the idea to problem-solve the situation. This Christmas gift has resulted in a gift for many tamariki, watch the video below:
