Active Healthcare recently facilitated a trial of the new TurnAll mattress to provide better sleep to a young boy, Adam, and his family*. Through its automated turning system the TurnAll allows both Adam and his mother Deborah to get more sleep each night.
“Thank you for providing the trial opportunity for the Turnall turning system. We have noticed that Adam’s sleeping quality has increased, which shows by the frequency of the manual repositioning times required by Adam at night.” Says Deborah, Adam’s mother.
The TurnAll works in 30, 60 and 90 minute intervals to turn patients on a 30 degree angle – which meets the NIICE guidelines for pressure care. This means caregivers have to get up far less in the night to turn patients. Adam has a genetic neuromuscular disease and relies on the help of his mother as well as other caregivers to ensure he is moved regularly in the night to avoid pressure injuries.
Deborah explains further, “It has reduced from 3-4 times per night to 1-2 times per night. The turning works quietly and safely during Adam‘s sleeping. From the long-term point of view, we believe that the automatic turning function could prevent and reduce the risk of pressure area for Adam.”
The TurnAll sits underneath the mattress, as seen above, to provide pressure relief.
